Luke Dyson has built a reputation by doing something very few people would be willing to do: turning up and fighting almost anyone put in front of him.
With more than 170 fights behind him, a huge online following and videos that he says have accumulated more than a billion views across social media, Dyson has carved out a unique position in the UK fight scene.
Now, however, he is stepping into a completely different world.
Appearing on the Tales from the Trap podcast, Luke Dyson joined Terry Stone to discuss his remarkable fighting career, his approach to life, social media fame and, most importantly, his first appearance on the big screen.
Dyson is making his acting debut in the upcoming Tales from the Trap film, marking another unexpected chapter in a life that has rarely followed a conventional route.
Luke Dyson Makes His Movie Debut
For someone accustomed to stepping into cages and boxing rings, being on a film set could have felt completely unfamiliar.
Instead, Dyson says he loved the experience.
Working across different locations and alongside a wide range of personalities gave him the opportunity to experience something completely new, but he surprisingly found himself comfortable in front of the cameras.
For Dyson, appearing in Tales from the Trap represents more than simply another project.
He described being involved in the film as something he will be able to look back on with pride, regardless of what critics or people online might think.
During filming, Dyson worked alongside names including Fumez the Engineer and other figures appearing throughout the project. He also featured in scenes connected to the boxing world, giving his first acting role a natural connection to the environment that has defined much of his life.
How Luke Dyson Got Into Fighting
Dyson’s path into fighting was anything but traditional.
He explained on the podcast that his younger years involved drinking, trouble and repeatedly finding himself in situations that were taking his life in the wrong direction.
Eventually, someone working at a venue where Dyson regularly found himself challenged him to put his willingness to fight to better use.
What Dyson believed would be a novice boxing match turned out to be something very different.
He travelled to Birmingham before realising there was a cage in the middle of the venue and that he had effectively arrived for an MMA fight.
With no proper MMA training behind him, Dyson was given equipment, sent into the cage and remarkably won his first fight in the opening round.
That victory changed everything.
Promoters began contacting him, footage circulated online and fighting rapidly became a regular part of his life.
More Than 170 Fights Later
At the time of the podcast recording, Dyson said he had reached 176 fights and intends to retire when he reaches 200.
His record is unusual because Dyson has never built his career around carefully choosing opponents simply to protect his win-loss record.
He has faced experienced boxers, MMA fighters and well-known names from across the UK fight scene.
One of the biggest examples discussed during the podcast was Danny Christie.
Dyson openly acknowledged Christie’s reputation and ability, but when the opportunity to fight him arrived, he says there was little hesitation.
The result ultimately went Christie’s way, but that appears to matter far less to Dyson than the fact he stepped into the ring and tested himself against one of the toughest fighters available to him.
It is an attitude that has defined his career.
Winning matters, but simply being willing to turn up has become almost as important.
Fighting Became a New Direction in Life
For Dyson, fighting was not originally about building a career or becoming famous.
It became something that helped replace other parts of his lifestyle.
He explained that fighting kept him away from drinking, drugs and nights out, while giving him somewhere productive to direct his energy.
Eventually, he says fighting itself became an addiction.
Dyson believes replacing destructive habits with something more positive was crucial in changing his direction.
The gym, competition and constant need to stay active gave him the structure that had previously been missing from his life.
Building a Huge Social Media Audience
Fighting is only one part of the Luke Dyson story.
His online presence has become almost as important as what happens inside the ring.
Dyson claims his videos have generated well over one billion views across social platforms.
Interestingly, he did not seriously focus on social media until dozens of fights into his career.
What has helped him stand out is his willingness to show his personality without attempting to create a polished online character.
Dyson believes authenticity and consistency are two of the biggest reasons people follow his content.
When asked what advice he would give someone trying to build an audience online, his message was simple: keep showing up.
Consistency, he argues, is usually the hardest part.
Many people start something enthusiastically before gradually disappearing. Dyson’s approach is almost the opposite. Whether it is training, fighting, business or content creation, he believes being relentlessly active creates opportunities.
Life Beyond Fighting
The podcast also revealed a very different side to Dyson.
Away from the fighting persona, his favourite film is Lord of the Rings, his favourite artist is Enya and one of his favourite things to eat is a stroopwafel.
He also revealed that he used to spend time baking when curfews meant he was stuck at home during an earlier stage of his life.
These unexpected details perhaps explain some of Dyson’s online appeal.
The intimidating fighter seen climbing into the ring is only one part of his personality.
Business, Fighting and New Opportunities
Dyson’s ambitions are also expanding outside combat sports.
Alongside fighting, he discussed launching Dyson Promotions and Dyson Competitions, ventures he is building with his partner Hannah.
His approach to new opportunities follows a simple philosophy: saying yes whenever something makes sense.
That mentality has taken him from an unexpected first MMA fight to social media fame, promoting events and now appearing in a movie.
Could Acting Be Luke Dyson’s Next Career?
With retirement planned for fight number 200, the obvious question is what comes afterwards.
For Dyson, acting could become a major part of the answer.
When asked directly what he would like to pursue in the future, his response was clear: he wants to act.
His role in Tales from the Trap could therefore be the beginning of something much bigger.
Dyson’s career has rarely followed a predictable route, which is exactly why moving from fighting into filmmaking somehow feels appropriate.
From turning up to an MMA fight without realising he was competing in MMA, to hundreds of fights, viral videos, business ventures and now his first movie role, Luke Dyson has built his career by repeatedly stepping into unfamiliar territory.
And with 200 fights approaching and Tales from the Trap preparing to introduce another side of him to audiences, the next chapter could be his most unexpected yet.
